The Line Fences Act has been passed by the provincial government to provide a procedure for the resolution of boundary line fence disputes between owners of adjoining properties.
Township Council is required by the Act to appoint Fence-Viewers. The Township has appointed five fence-viewers to investigate and arbitrate eligible disputes. A minimum of three fence-viewers will investigate and arbitrate on eligible disputes.
Should the owners of two adjoining properties not be able to reach an agreement on the sharing of the costs of a line fence or on the type of line fence that is to be constructed, then one of the owners may complete and submit a Form 1, Request for Fence-Viewers, to the Clerk.
A fee in the amount of $225/per fenceviewer plus mileage applies to all requests.
