In 2005, the province passed the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA). The Act lays out a comprehensive road map to make Ontario accessible to all people through the development, implementation and enforcement of new, mandatory accessibility standards.  Five key areas have been identified: customer service, transportation, information and communications, the built environment and employment.  Under the AODA all municipalities are required to prepare an annual Accessibility Plan that identifies various barriers and discusses how these barriers are to be eliminated.  View the Township’s Accessibility Plan for 2017/ 2022. The first accessibility regulation to be approved by the province was the customer service regulation which came into force on January 1, 2008.  The Township was required to prepare a Customer Service Policy.  View the Township’s Customer Service Policy

The province has recently approved a second regulation which combines three of the five key areas into one regulation referred to as the Integrated Accessibility Standard. This standard integrates regulations with respect to information and communication, transportation and employment.  Beginning in 2012, the Township is required to phase in the development and implementation of policies over the next four years.
